Trevor Egleton

Buckinghamshire Council

Trevor Egleton

I worked in the construction industry for 55 years as a quantity surveyor/estimator for a variety of companies on a wide range of projects and am now retired.

I have been a member of the Conservative Party for over 40 years and during that time have been an active member of the Beaconsfield Association involved at both Branch and Constituency Association level. Over the years I have held various active offices relating to fund raising and political campaigning as well as serving on many committees. I was also a member of Slough Conservative Association, campaigning in local and national elections. I have held numerous positions in the Stoke Poges branch, notably the office of Branch Chairman during which time we were the top performing branch in the Association.

I have extensive experience at all levels of local government having been a councillor for over 30 years. I served for 20 years on Stoke Poges Parish Council, 10 years on Buckinghamshire County Council, and two periods of 20 years on South Bucks District Council where I am currently still a Councillor.

As Parish Councillor I served as Parish Council Chairman and chaired the individual committees during my terms of office.

Whilst a County Councillor I was a member of various committees including serving as Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee when this was a single committee overseeing the work of the whole Council. I spent four years as Deputy Cabinet Member for Resources.

During my time as District Councillor I chaired several committees and became the first Leader of the Council, introducing Cabinet government and a new constitution. We also returned the Council to Conservative control from a hung council before the new Cabinet working style was adopted. I was very active on regional and sub regional organisations representing the council.

I am proud to be the founding Chairman of the Thames Valley Police & Crime Panel which is the only statutory body that scrutinises the Police and Crime Commissioner and was established 7 years ago.

A Shadow Council Executive has been created to make the strategic decisions on how the new Unitary Authority will run and contains members from each District. I am pleased to be representing South Bucks District at this important forum. In tandem with this I am also on a Working Group looking at issues of localism once the Council becomes unified.
