The UK saw another fall in the unemployment rate in the UK and a record number of people IN work in figures published on 14th June 2017.
Locally, the total number of unemployed claimants in Beaconsfield constituency in May 2017 was 460.
- This represents a rate of 0.9% of the economically active population aged 16-64, the 593rd highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.6%.
- The number of claimants in Beaconsfield constituency is 60 higher than May 2016 and 20 higher than April 2017.
- There were 55 claimants aged 18-24 in May 2017, the same as in May 2016.
'Unemployed claimants' include people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance or who are claiming Universal Credit and are required to seek work.
Impact of Universal Credit
Under Universal Credit, a broader span of claimants are required to look for work than under Jobseeker's Allowance. This has the effect of increasing the number of unemployed claimants.
